Mosey out of the start pavilion and around the sidewalk to the next pavilion.  The ground had been turned into a mudhole between the sidewalk, so we moseyed past to the next pavilion (not the only audible this morning).  I told the PAX that we have four pavilion stations, each with three exercises of the same structure (initially 20 reps first exercise, 15 reps of the second exercise, 10 reps of the third exercise).  They got to pick how many rounds of each we did, without knowing the exercises.  The fun part is they could choose 3,4,5 or 6 rounds but once you use a number, you can no longer use it.  So they are choosing blindly on how many rounds we do.

Pavilion 1 (PAX chose 6 rounds):

  • Dips x20
  • Decline merkins x15
  • Four count (HR) merkins x10

This proved to be a huge mistake on my part, so after three rounds of that, Q called an audible.  10 reps of each exercise to finish the final three rounds.  Finish and mosey around the sidewalk to the pavilion beside the Lion’s Club building.

Pavilion 2 (PAX chose four rounds):

  • Calf raises x10
  • Lunges x10 (each leg)
  • Bulgarian split squats x10 (each leg)

Mosey out of the pavilion onto the sidewalk and back (tables were set up differently at each pavilion and this one was better).

Pavilion 3 (PAX chose 5 rounds):

  • Carolina dry docks x10
  • Table rows x10
  • Single arm pulls on the poles x10 (each arm)

No time to mosey, just stayed put for round four.

Pavilion 4 (PAX were left with 3 rounds):

  • Smurf jacks x10
  • Plank jacks x10
  • Burpees x5

That was enough to use up the time, no Mary today.

Reused my word from yesterday, a C.S. Lewis quote:
Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.”

Again, just shows how much people tend to worry about the truths in their lives.  Just stress to live by your word, be true to each other and maybe even more importantly be true to yourself.

For the workout we spent all our time at the parking lot. Each set consisted of 4 exercises done for a set amount of time each then followed by another exercise

  • 1 minute of Burpees, Merkins, Cobras and Carolina Dry Docks each, each of which were followed by a lap around the parking lot
  • 1 minute of Big Boys Situps, Flutterkicks, American Hammers and Little Baby Crunches each, each of which were followed by bear crawls
  • 30 seconds of Burpees, Merkins, Cobras and Carolina Dry Docks each, each of which were followed by a sprint across the parking lot
  • 30 seconds of Big Boys Situps, Flutterkicks, American Hammers and Little Baby Crunches each, each of which were followed by bear crawls
  • 1 minute of Squat Jumps, Side Lunges, Sumo Squats and Jane Fondaes each, each followed by a jog across the parking lot

Ring of Fire with Merkins to kill the last couple minutes
Recycled my word from Big Ball last Saturday about Sabbath and rest. The Sabbath was the most elaborated upon of the ten commandments and was first demonstrated by God in the creation account. Sometimes rest takes work since we tend to default to the easiest things, rather than the most satisfying. Also encouraged us to prioritize rest rather than waiting until feeling burnt out
Prayers for the Mend House and for Wilson’s daughter Peyton who is having tubes put into her ears next Thursday

More Doras for the Explorers

THE SCENE: Upper 40’s, damp and dark

SSH x 20, Baby Arm Circles x 20 forwards and 20 backwards, Cherry Pickers x 10, Tempo Squats x 10, Tempo Merkins x 10

  • Doras at the parking lot: each partner does one set of Squats, Big Boy Sit Ups and Flutterkicks while the other partner crabwalks to end of lot and lunges back
  • Doras at the lot again: this time with Smurf Jacks, American Hammers and Boxcutters while the other partner Bernies out and lunges back
  • Doras at the smaller lot next to the church: Carolina Dry Docks, Merkins and Cobras while partner bearcrawls out and back
  • Ring of Fire: First with squats then with merkins. Started with 1 rep each, adding 1 rep as we went around until we reached 5, then went back down to 1
  • Bearcrawl Ladder: Bearcrawls up the hill with parking spots, stopping to do 3 merkins at the end of each parking spot
  • Finished with a lap around the park

Although “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”, it’s actually Advent. Historically this was a time in which the Church would wait in expectation for the arrival of the Messiah through the birth of Christ. This was also a time of mourning and hypothetical reflection on the thought of what would life be like and who are we without a savior and without the grace of God. I encouraged us all to take a moment this holiday season to disengage from the food, music, parties and lights to re-engage with an ancient tradition of waiting in expectation for the coming King

“The most important conversations you’ll ever have are the ones you’ll have with yourself. You wake up with them, you walk around with them, you go to bed with them, and eventually you act on them. Whether they be good or bad. We are all our own worst haters and doubters because self doubt is a natural reaction to any bold attempt to change your life for the better. You can’t stop it from blooming in your brain, but you can neutralize it, and all the other external chatter by asking, What if?” – David Goggins, Can’t Hurt Me

Prayers for some F3 brothers and their family, and also for a local F3 brother who we recently lost.

Good way to end the week. Everyone put out some serious effort.
