CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Content – In a state of peaceful happiness

I’m typically not very flexible. I’m a planner and like to be organized. This pandemic has been terrible but a blessing.

Obviously, 70,000 people in the United States have died from the Coronavirus and the numbers will continue to grow.

I can’t travel for work, I’m now a home school teacher so I have learned to be more flexible and patience.

Last night, we tried to order Mexican food for Cinco de Mayo and couldn’t get through to anywhere so we decided to go to Taco Bell. All Taco Bell’s were packed!  We ended up getting our daughter Chick Fil A & my wife and I ordered wings from Wild Wing Café. We rode around listening to music and realized it was the first time the three of us had been in the car together for more than a month!  It was a great night.  We had fun and I felt blessed that we had food on the table.

Our youngest daughter, Alex, was going to Illinois for a week but my wife’s cousin, Mary, called last night that she and one of her sons have the Coronavirus. They’re sick but not feeling too bad. So, Alex isn’t going to Illinois next weekend but we’re hoping sometime in the next couple of months to see her cousins. I was honesly looking forward to a week without homeschooling so I could work a bit. However, that’s not in the cards so I’ll suck it up and just appreciate that I have a healthy daughter and enjoy the time I have with her and pray she will enjoy our time together and eventually get to visit her cousins in Illinois later this year.

Phillippians 4:11-13 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

MOLESKIN:

It was good to be on Q but no F3 for a couple of months & me travelling so much over the last 6 months definitely made me a little rusty on leading the Warm-O-Rama & BOM.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Do not repay evil for evil but seek to do good to one another and everyone  1 Thessalonians 5:13
We need to be quick to forgive, not repaying evil for evil but actually seeking to do good for everyone.  This busy time of year you may be thinking you don’t have time to do one more thing or help one more person. But we have an awesome opportunity to help each other, and everyone: through prayer.

Friday’s COT by @FingerFood, he called out by name guys who have impacted and helped him – that process of calling people out by name is bold, and it’s powerful to encourage.  We have been called to boldly pray for one another (See James 5:16)

Today as you carried each other, literally, let this remind you of our chance to carry each other’s need before the Lord – and as a bonus, it isn’t sweaty, a little gross and personal space invading.  As you lift a guy up doing pull ups, we lift each other up to the Lord -that God’s glory would shine through their life.

There is Someone I know who lived this verse of doing good for one another and everyone perfectly –  His birthday is coming up.  I hope you know Him too.  He is Jesus and He died for you – He prays for each of you by name.

Today, the prayer time will included a chance to lift up for you by name: Your kids (kids in your life), Wife (or women in your life), Pastor, someone older (dad, shut in, elder, mentor), coworkers, HIM’s not there and even our enemies.

MOLESKIN:
21 HIMS for a powerful prayer time of lifting to the Lord one another and everyone – now continue to pray for people by name, listen to Lord’s calling to reach out, help, bless ans SEEK to do Good for the people you prayed for by name.

COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA

33 men counting the Rushers.  2 bugged-out before the pic.

Welcome!  FNG to-be-named (that dude CRUSHED the workout without even breaking a sweat!  I think I even saw him yawning a half-dozen times…)

Glad to have you!  2 from down-range (Chattanooga), “Blindside” and “Laces Out”

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

It’s been said that when leading his army in conquest, Julius Caesar would never tell them “go forward” – instead, he would move first and then tell the army behind him, “Come!”.  This morning, I want to talk about leading by example – and more specifically to those of you who are fathers – about leading your children by your example.

In some ways, your sons and daughters will become what you are – are you being what you want them to be?

In the mid-19th century, J.C. Ryle wrote a book, “Duties of Parents”.  Here are a few nuggets of wisdom from the book;

  • Train them (your children) remembering continually the influence of your own example
  • Instruction, advice, and commands will profit little unless they are backed up by the pattern of your own life
  • Your children will never believe you…so long as your actions contradict your counsel
  • They will seldom learn habits which they see you despise or walk in paths in which you do not walk yourself
  • What they see has a much stronger effect on their minds than what they are told

Your actions speak much louder than your words.  Are you demonstrating right living?

You must be demonstrating for your sons and daughters, habits which will produce healthy bodies (exercise, eating well…).  More importantly, you must demonstrate habits which promote healthy relationships (trustworthiness, self-control, kindness, vulnerability…).  Most importantly, you must be persistently demonstrating through observable action, habits which promote a healthy soul (charity, prayer, reverence for the Name of God, studying the Word of God…).

“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable…excellent…and praiseworthy” (Philippians 4:8).  You must fill your own mind with these things – and DEMONSTRATE them to your sons and daughters.

They are observing you, Dad!  Are your behaviors promoting the young men and women that you want them to be?

The parent who tries to train without setting a good example is building with one hand and pulling down with the other.” – J.C. Ryle

A lot of today’s exercises we did to failure.  Do you ever fail at being the example you want your children to follow?  I wish I could say that I never have setbacks – that I can always tell my sons, “Imitate me, just as I imitate Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1) – but that’s not the case.  I fail sometimes, and those failures are counterproductive to my hard work.  Just three days ago, at the end of what had been an incredible and memorable boys-only weekend, I lashed out at my oldest and called him a “stupid ass” (for nearly blinding his little brother by directing a leaf blower right into his face…).  For all the time and energy my wife and I spend building him up and up… with that emotional outburst, I tore some of our hard work down.

For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing” (Romans 7:18) – (Hat tip to Anchorman for his Q last week)

Inevitably, you’re going to fail as well.  What then?  Here’s what I did last weekend (after the emotion died down)…  I explained my reaction – I was volcanic at him because he could have very seriously hurt his brother.  I admitted my mistake – which was assuming that he’d done it on purpose for a laugh.  I asked his forgiveness and talked to him about how I could have reacted differently.  He sees me trying hard to be a better father.

DEMONSTRATE right living for your children, men.

3 CHALLENGES for today – from easiest to hardest…

#1: Commit this to memory;
Proverbs 20:7 “The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.”

#2:  What is something that you want your kids to do or be that you will START DEMONSTRATING for them?
(For me, it’s reading scripture.  I often read on my phone, but for all my sons know I could be playing Candy Crush…  I need to be more deliberate about outwardly demonstrating that habit – it can be as simple as reading an actual paper Bible, or including them in discussion)

#3:  What is one unhealthy part of you that you do not want your kids to do or be – and you will STOP DEMONSTRATING for them?
(For me, it’s reacting emotionally)

MOLESKIN:

  • Prayers for Guardrail’s family in Chicago, for Gump and his wife as they have a baby today (!), praise for Mailbox’s answered prayers from Monday!
  • Here’s a link to the book I quoted above.  At only 25 pages, it’s a quick read.  Review pages 20-21.  https://chapellibrary.org:8443/pdf/books/dopa.pdf
  • The workout didn’t seem nearly hard enough today.  I’ll be scheming about how to bring more pain next time I’m on Q.
  • If you’re up for it, share in JUCO Group Me about life changes you will make to better demonstrate right living (Answer Challenge 2 and/or 3)

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
I thought I was saved when I prayed a prayer at 10 years old thinking I was a Christian. My life for 23 years reflected otherwise and this year my grievous sexual sin caused my wife and I to not only separate but are likely divorcing. On June 24th, the night after my wife kicked me out of the house, God woke me up at 3am and convicted me of my sin, confessing and repenting (turning) from my sin and truly surrendering my life to Him as a true follower of Christ.

Along the way this summer I have had many trials, but the thing that I’ve been impressed upon most is how God’s Word has changed me. When I have put it in, it has NEVER returned void. So, to emphasize the importance of putting the Word in our hearts and our minds and letting it fill us, I recited from memory Colossians 3:1-17 (this is why we did 3 and 33 of everything today ICYMI):

If, then, you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, you also will appear with Him in glory.

Put to death, therefore, what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, & covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked when you were living in them, but now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its desires, and have put on the new self which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its Creator. Here there is not Greek & Jew, circumcised & uncircumcised, Barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all and in all.

Put on then as God’s chosen ones, holy & beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing songs and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

God’s Word is so important to us we should prioritize it over everything. We should take it in slowly, daily, and consistently. It should be more precious to use than anything and we should fight to put it before us so we are changed by it and have it ready at all times when we are under spiritual attack or temptation from anywhere. It does so much for us (2 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 4:12, Psalm 119:9-11, and many more),

3 questions to consider about God’s Word:

1. Are you prioritizing time in the Word and with Christ above all else?
This means over breakfast, lunch, sleep, Netflix, even F3 and working out. Nothing is more important than Christ’s Word.

2. Are you memorizing Christ’s Word so it is always with you, dwelling in you richly?
-Pick Scriptures and passages that speak to where you are- for me it was Psalm 51 and of course you can start in Colossians 3 if you’re unsure. But start somewhere – and soon!
-Use index cards to review multiple times/day, recite it in the bathroom instead of being on your phone.
-Fast from other things and devote time to the Bible.

3. Are you talking about God’s Word with people in your life?
With your wife, your kids, your usmall group, other F3 HIMs, friends, & coworkers.
